Personal Statement

I want to study for a degree in graphic design /graphic communication because I enjoy it and do well at it.
I take pride in what I do with whatever task I am doing and I do the tasks and projects to the best of my ability
In my current course and past courses I enjoyed the designing more than the written aspects. Some things that were helpful in the course were:

Web Design : for a client for the community group Crossroads, The project was based in Glasgow Gorbals and was for a community drop in youth group which were called "The Play Barn". They wanted a new website for both The Play Barn and a corporate one for the Crossroads youth site.
3D Animation: advanced technical direction : I produced a 3d model using 3dsmax that is done professionally and is able to walk and have a scene to go with it.
2D Animation : In this I did 7 animation in ; Motherwell College , as part of the course work, in my 1st year at computer arts , I did 2 animations a title sequence and a logo animation.
I also did Project based work to go on display at Motherwell College's closing celebrations, for the opening of the new College which included posters that were to be displayed around the college and menu designs for the event itself .
Graphic Design : I was asked to clean up old photographs, create a Andy Warhol type picture, and a business card which was pre picked, I had to add effects and typography.
A turning point in my education was when I was studying film craft and animation, when we did graphics, I was more interested in producing something like that, but I still like animation, and since the beginnings of 3d came in, I am liking it a lot more.
I worked as part of the high school work experience module in St Blanes primary school , taking the role as a class helper, My roles included:
Helping the students in day to day tasks also taking a role as a authority figure to the youngsters , and role model and I also assisted the teacher , in any way possible
Due to my hard work I received a good report on this.

For the past 3 years I have been volunteering with a group called LANDED. They deal in giving harm reduction messages to other youth groups, other groups of all ages, mainly on a peer to peer basis on the dangers of drug, alcohol and sexual health issues.
In this group I am a peer educator and my roles there are delivering workshops to youth groups and producing material to go on public display. Recently we published "Oot Yer Face" a youth friendly booklet on alcohol. I also assisted and arranged events such as the Website relaunch, which I not only assisted in but also developed.

By doing this I gained confidence , through doing workshops with young people. I have gained organisational skills and work load balancing skills with College work and my volunteering work . I also have received 150 hours of volunteering service certificate and several certificates of volunteering merits.

In conclusion , I feel that I have the motivation, experience and the skills to see me exceed the challenge of a university degree in a specialised subject and achieve it successfully and to my full potential.
